Pro Tour power

If you're a fairly serious racer, chances are that you have a power meter. Chances are also high that you use Training Peaks, a Foxtrot Racing sponsor. It's humbling to see the power file of a Pro Tour racer. The latest helping of humble pie is courtesy of Velonews. Rory Sutherland is a Boulder resident and his power files from Paris-Nice are inspring. Rory was riding Paris-Nice in support of his team Saxo-Tinkoff leader, Alberto Contador. Last year during the Tour of Colorado, rather the USA Pro Cycling Challenge, Rory was the winner of the ultra-cool stage that finished at the top of Flagstaff.

I think Velonews overestimates the abilities of their hypothetical 'good Cat-4' but Rory's values are still mightily impressive.

  1. Some real data from me: 330W for 5 minutes. 20 minutes at 3 W/kg. One minute at 6 W/kg. Now, *IF* I weighed 160lbs, it would be a whole different story, but I'll get there by August. A mere 23lbs to go.
